Having seen this picture on canvas before, I can rightfully vouch that the scan does it no justice. The feeling in this piece is simply amazing.
Lust, one of the seven deadly sins. I watch Gretch sketch out all the others through nine months of AP art, and this one is my absolute favorite. I can feel the intense phsyical longing from the people caught in trees. I feel like this should have been a scene in Dante's Inferno, it seems like a fitting punishment to be forever longing and and reaching, but always rooted to the ground.
And that's why I like this picture. <3

I think the best part of this one is the single figure frozen at his reach's end. Punishment for reckless passion should be more brutal than the second circle.
If this is a reference to Dante's strange book Divine Comedy:Inferno- actually, those who lust are swept around by storm winds, never able to have what they seek. It is those who committed suicide whose bodies are turned into trees for all of eternity. They're on separate layers of Hell, as I recall. ...The way you did the colors on this is interesting. Did you use watercolors? I like the subtle gradations.

That's very interesting. Actually it had no reference to Dante's Inferno, being that I haven't read it. I'm disappointed in the fact that I thought that this painting was original. I had never seen any of the seven deadly sins illustrated before hand so I was willing to create what I felt was suitable for those who lust. I was trying to imagine a way of punishment that keeps them unable to reach eachother. This was actually painted in acrylics but diluted to give a watery consistency. Thank you for the comment!

For those who have many watchers, and for those who dont have many, it is hard to know how one retains that interest as well as receive more. This article explores the basics of watchers and how we react to certain situations. Although it does not affect some deviants, and the tips are generally related to common sense, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority learn something from reading this.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

"Swords!" shouted Syme, turning his flaming face to the three behind him. "Let us charge these dogs, for our time has come to die."
